Ramblings of a geek with a few hobbies…

  • Fantasy Baseball

I just finished creating my league and team on mlb.com’s Ultimate Salary Cap fantasy baseball game. If anyone wants to join my league, just let me know and I’ll get you the password. This game is slightly different than other fantasy baseball games because the startup time is a lot shorter – just pick who you want on your team (max of $50 million) and you’re done, no long drafting process. It costs $20 for a team ($18 if you sign up within the next day), but if we get 10 people in the league then the winner will get $50. http://fantasygames.mlb.com/baseball/fullseason/ultimate/home.html

If you aren’t too hot on paying for it, they also have a free game which is similar but with fewer roster spots (9 versus 14), lower cap ($30m instead of $50m, and fewer prizes. I have a league and team setup there as well (Free Hot Stove/Free Dozers).

Should be fun for those of us that are baseball fans, even if our team(s) don’t do well during the year.

  • New Shredder

Tonight I bought a new shredder to replace the cheapo $10 one I have effectively killed. This one can handle a much larger load and cross cuts; should last a while. To break it in, I spent 2 hours shredding our “shred queue” – resulting in 2+ large garbage bags of shreds.

  • Shuttle

Ana and I are tossing around the idea of travelling down to Florida for a day or so to watch the space shuttle launch when it returns to flight. I’ve always wanted to see a launch and I will probably be in need of a short vacation from work around then, so when could be a better time to go?

Right now we’re just kicking the idea around, but the more I think about it, the more I like it.

  • Construx

As of Friday, Construx and St. Agnes Homes went out of business. They had filed for bankruptcy about a month ago but couldn’t come to an agreement with their debtors and had to close shop. I feel sorry for the few remaining employees that ended up getting screwed by the owner, but of the companies themselves I say good riddance! They were the first companies I’ve personally encountered that continually lied to my face and broke everything they touched.

Bye, bye Construx and St. Agnes!

  • TGIF

It’s been one hell of a week at work and I’m utterly exhausted. So much so that it’s clear outside and I’ve decided to stay in and head to bed early; now that’s tired. I have more work to do this weekend but will just do that Sunday so I can get a day of rest in.

  • Another night out

It was clear outside last night, so I spent some time trying to get a better picture of Jupiter. The results are decent:

    Jupiter

I also got an image of M37, a cluster in Auriga. It looks way too dark on my CRT but ok on my laptop’s LCD. So be forewarned that it may be appear black 🙂

  • NBC

My suspicions are correct. 42.85% of NBC’s Prime Time lineup consists of Law and Order shows of some form (9 hours out of 7 days * 3 hours per day). And they are adding a new series to the lineup.. when does it end!

  • Fourth up: Jupiter

Jupiter came out pretty crappy because of air turbulance, hopefully I’ll get some better shots in the future.

  • Third up: Orion Nebula

This is my first attempt at any “deep space objects”. It didn’t turn out great but it’s something.

  • Second up: Moon

I took quite a few pictures of the moon, they can be seen here. All pictures taken with my old scope have been moved into a sub-album.
    Here’s one of them.
