A nurse came in a bit ago and said that they plan on giving Ana three bags of platelets – one before surgery, one during, and one afterwards. We’re still waiting for the one before to be delivered…

Wii
So as I mentioned, we rented a couple games last night:
Sonic and Mario at the Olympic Games is a blast! We only got to play it for a couple hours, but it looks like a game that could be entertaining for a long, long time. Blazing Angels is an awesome air combat game, it reminds me a lot of Chuck Yeager’s Air Combat from way back in the day. I’ll be picking that one up at some point.

Checked in
Well we’re up in the room now and she just received an IV, which was an ordeal. What’s a little blood on the floor between friends?

T minus 5:45:00
Good morning everyone!
Here we are – just a few hours to go. Last night we rented a couple Wii games, Jay and Katherine came over, and we were able to make the evening go much faster than the day went.
We’re packing up the last couple things now in preparation of heading in to the hospital, so stay tuned…

Recipe Slideshows
Chef has a feature called Recipe Slideshows which allow you to view a recipe fullscreen in a PowerPoint-like format that’s much easier to read while you’re cooking than the small text of a cookbook, or the regular view of a recipe in Chef for that matter. I’ve had that feature around for a while, but I noticed that Ana never uses it!
Her main complaint was that the ingredients weren’t always displayed so she’d find herself constantly flipping between the directions and the ingredients, to the point where it was just much easier to deal with the small text of the regular recipe window. This past weekend I made a few changes – the ingredients are always displayed AND it highlights the ingredients that are used for the current step. Click for the full image:
This is going into version 1.3 with a few other enhancements and fixes due sometime in January or February.

Just a few more days
Well we just have a few more days left before the baby is born. Slowly but surely we’re getting the last few things done around the house in preparation. We’ll be going to the hospital at 8am on Wednesday (Dec 12th) so Ana can get full of platelets and she’s scheduled for csection at noon.
That morning, and all day, I’ll be posting updates to the blog from the hospital room. Don’t laugh – if you’re reading this then you know me and it shouldn’t be a surprise 🙂 Anyway, I’ll have everything setup to provide updates as the day progresses. As time permits I’ll even post some photos, so be sure to keep coming back.
Feel free to leave Comments, just remember that if you’ve never posted one before, I will need to approve your first submission. So don’t worry if you don’t see the comment you leave immediately, it’ll get there eventually.

An Open Letter to Jessica Long
The following is an email I sent today to Jessica Long, Justin’s wife.—
Dear Jessica,
Are you familiar with the Christmas story A Charlie Brown Christmas? Do you remember the tree in the story? Everyone but Charlie Brown hated it, and they hated him for getting it. But Charlie ignored all of the hatred and treated it with love and compassion. If you recall the ending of the story, everyone came around and loved the tree. It was truly a great story.
Now, I realize that you have come to love the POD Tree. But seriously, it’s the POD Tree. Not the Booth Tree. Give it back.

Snow
Overnight, Central Illinois was dusted with a little bit of snow. I don’t know what the final totals are but I suspect it’s something like 2-2.5″.
Last night on TV, our local “news” station was doing the typical reporting about how the salt trucks were getting ready to start driving around, blah blah. Then the reporter brought up “concerns” people had about the City being able to pay for the overtime for the drivers! Seriously, this is the first light snow of the season – do you honestly believe that the City wouldn’t be able to pay already??
“Uh, folks… we’re sorry to say that today we exhausted our snow removal funds. We just didn’t think it was going to snow this year in the Midwest…”. Come on people, use your brains.

This just in…
I’m posting this since Ana doesn’t post often….
Ana has just reported to me that McDonald’s Sweet Tea just doesn’t compete the the homemade stuff.

An Update
Just an update – due to Ana’s platelet complications and the expected size of the baby, we have a c-section scheduled for noon next Wednesday, Dec 12th.
We’ll be getting Ana to the hospital around 8am so that they can get an infusion (or more if needed) into her so her platelet count is increased enough to allow for a spinal block during the surgery. Since she’ll be getting up around 3:30am to take her prednisone (doctor’s orders), it’s going to be a very long and tiring day.
