  • More platelets

We’re still waiting for the blood test results from bag 1. Bag2 just finished.

  • Tentative Time

Just a heads-up – the noon time is now tentative. They’re going to run another blood test and see what her levels are. Chances are good that she’ll need another bag before the surgery so it’ll be another hour+.

  • Waiting

Just waiting around now for the platelets to be infused.  Wait wait wait.

  • Counts

This just in, Ana’s platelet count is 17,000.  Anesthesiologist wants her to be at 85,000 before they’ll give the regional anesthetic and 55,000 before surgery period.  They will be giving her the first round of platelets at 10, then do another blood check after that.   Immediately after the blood test has been drawn, they’ll toss another bag on.

Note to self: they’ll be giving her IV steroids every 6 hours to replace her prednisone for the next few days (100mg).

  • Platelets

A nurse came in a bit ago and said that they plan on giving Ana three bags of platelets – one before surgery, one during, and one afterwards. We’re still waiting for the one before to be delivered…

  • Hematologist

Today we met with the hematologist Ana has been seeing since her hospital visit. She had a blood test run and it came back at 27,000. “Not good, but OK” according to the doctor. We continued talking with him and asked explicitly about what would happen if she needs to give birth and her platelets aren’t at the levels the other doctors say they want them to be (50,000 for delivery, 100,000 for epidural). Much to our relief, he explained that once a bag of platelets gets infused, she’ll have levels of 250,000 in her. Her body would attack them as they have been, but it would be plenty high for delivery. And he would just keep giving her the platelets as long as she needed them to get her through the delivery.

Whew. I wish we would have asked that question 3 weeks ago.

  • Blood Test

Ana has a blood test scheduled for 8am tomorrow morning.  We’ll see if the last visit did any good.  Stay tuned for more information.
