  • One Year

Today was David’s first birthday!  As has been the monthly ritual, I got the camera equipment out and took a few photos.  (More photos in the gallery)

In one sense it’s incredible that it has been a year since he was born; but in another it feels like he has been with us all along, and we’ve experienced so much:  turning his head to our voices; reaching for toys; rolling over; giggling; trying to crawl; crawling; picking out his favorite books; snuggling up for reading time; trying to walk; walking; and on and on.

His smile is infectious, his laugh even moreso.  And I could sit for hours just watching him concentrating and learning about the world around him.

Tonight he received a set of small toy trucks from my parents and he sat and ran the trucks over every surface he could find, making little engine noises.  He also received a toy filled with gears, which he occupied himself with by spinning and tinkering – I couldn’t help but just step back and smile; that’s my boy.

  • Christmas Tree

Last night Jay and Katherine came over for dinner, followed by a trip to Lowes to each get our Christmas trees. Their selection was pretty dismal, and Ana and I eventually bought the very first one we look at. Go figure.

So today we got the tree put up, and boy does David enjoy it.

These pictures took some experimenting to get, my first attempts at using the flash and keeping the backgound as close to its natural luminence.  Not too bad, I’m sure I’ll be getting alot more practice with as much as David likes the tree 🙂

    Need I say more?

  • 11 Months Old

He’s 11 months old today, kinda crazy.  The rest can be seen in the gallery.

Quick little story about the backdrop.  I had grand plans of it looking a lot better/different than this.  I started last night  first dying the muslin solid yellow.  Then I tied it into  ball and dyed it tan, producing a nice mixture of the two colors.  Finally, I tied it up again an dropped it into a dark brown dye.  Unfortunately, I didn’t tie the ball tight enough and the dark brown overpowered the other layers – completely ruining the autumn-looking backdrop I wanted.  The end result still looks ok, just not what I had planned 😦

  • Oh the Colors!

Today after work we went out to a lake park to enjoy the weather, the colors, and to take some photos (of course!). It’s very hard to believe that it’s already the end of October, isn’t it?

Anyway, today was the first time I’ve made use of the Neutral Density filter I purchased over a year ago for my camera.  I originally ordered it to help take shots of waterfalls on our vacation, but it was delivered long after we departed.  If you’re wondering what a Neutral Density filter is, it’s a filter for the lens that darkens the image without any color tinting (that’s the neutral part).  This allows you to slow down the shutter speed to durations that would normally produce dramatically overexposed pictures.  We had some fun with it:

Later we learned that David has been taking lessons from the great Obi-Wan.  Seriously, he was doing some serious re-enactment with this stick.

The rest of the series are in the gallery, yell at me for access.

  • Park

Springfield had fantastic weather today, so we decided to head to a park.  The leaves are turning and the air is nice and crisp.  Gotta love it.

After a while here, we headed to the zoo where David got to ride on a Hippo.  More photos available.

  • 10 Months

Yesterday David turned a whopping 10 months old, so we had our montly photo shoot.

As I’m transitioning to my new photo gallery, I’m password protecting some areas.  So, if you’d like to see the full collection – shoot me an email at ej@ejinnovations.com and I’ll grant you access.

  • He’s All Over

David is mastering his walker (or whatever you call these things) and is all over the place now in it.  Here are a few clips of him gliding through the kitchen.  You’ll notice this thing has a predisposition for turning left – I took a look at it and the front wheels are designed that way!  Quite stupid in my opinion, I might look around and see if I can find some replacements.

    And finally, some photos.

  • October, already?

And before we knew it, it was October!

David was outside for a while this evening enjoying the cool weather and the great sunset light (ok, that last part was me).

Look, he sees his shadow!  Does that extend summer?
