Ramblings of a geek with a few hobbies…

  • Month 5 Photos!

But not tonight.  Pre-empted by an extremely tired baby.

We’ll try again, earlier tomorrow night.

  • The Dirt is Now a Garden

And the dirt has made it into the garden!

    More photos as usual.

  • Dirt

Today we should be getting some dirt delivered to our house for the garden.  Shame on me for taking the advice/experience of the person on the phone when ordering, I was being lazy but finally did the calculations myself and will be ending up with right around 50% more dirt than I’m going to need.  Greaaat.

I know I have a few other places in the yard I could use some of the extra, but there will surely be a decent amount left.

So, anyone in Springfield want some topsoil?  If not I may just tell them to keep some of what I’ve paid for – an idiot tax of sorts.

  • Chef 1.3.20

I just released the latest version, 1.3.20, tonight.  A few new things include: recipe rating; cooking times; preparation times; better search capability; ingredient preparations; bug fixes; and more bug fixes.

If you’re a user, go upgrade!  If you aren’t a user, give it a try!

And now it’s midnight, time for bed.

  • SJ-R.com

Did someone forget to renew the domain? Bueller? Bueller?

    www.sj-r.com seems to be parked!

  • Garage Sale

Our neighborhood is having a big garage sale this weekend, and for the first time in 4 years we have decided to try and sell some of the stuff we want to get out of the house.

Nobody wants our stuff.  They just stare at the stack of $3 computer books and continue on 😦  Ana think we should market them as booster seats instead.

Come on people, come get some C++ learnin’!

  • A question for the digital photographers out there

As anyone who has done any decent amount of photo editing on their computer knows, getting the colors and brightness just right can be a difficult task.  Speaking for myself, I find it very frustrating to get the image looking good on my main monitor, but when I slide it to one of the others, it loses its appeal.

So I’m wondering if any of you have ever used one of those monitor calibration pieces of hardware, such as the Spyder and others like it.  Do they work?  Is it worth it?  Any other recommendations?  I’m using 4 LCDs, no CRTs.

I have tried software based ones (like Adobe Gamma) but often feel that it ends up being sooo subjective that my eyes want to pop out of my head.

    Looking for some advice…

  • Some Dog Pictures?!

It’s my parents’ dog Abbey, but since we usually post cat pictures I thought I’d toss these up.

    Awww

Taken with my new Canon 70-300mm IS.

  • Ridiculous Lawsuits

I just received an email saying that I may be included in a class action law suit against Creative labs, the maker of my MP3 player. The plaintiff is suing because:

“plaintiffs allege that in the sale and marketing of its hard disc drive MP3 players Creative stated that purchasers of the drives would receive approximately 7% more usable storage capacity than they actually received and misrepresented the number of songs and number of hours of music the players could hold.”

Why do people waste time with these things. Isn’t the number of songs relative to the size of the MP3 file? Maybe I’m missing something, but this just seems ridiculous. I like my Creative product and would purchase it again, regardless of what they claim it can hold vs what it actually holds.
